Heavy snow and salt covered roads kept us home for the most part of the holidays. Everyone was itching to get out for a drive so as soon as weather cleared up a little and the roads were someone clear of salt we set up a Sunday drive and around 20 cars showed up.
The drive was mostly in New Jersey, but despite it being early Sunday morning the police presence on all the roads/highways we went on was overwhelming so we mostly behaved and tried to attract as less attention as possible. Only one person got pulled over and ticketed, but luckily he was able to resolve it right away.
DFC member Ajcut7 (Anthony) had a great idea while out for a ride in his friend\'s airplane - we always get pictures of the cars from ground level, how about getting shots from the air! He shared the idea with the rest of us here on our forum and it was met with much enthusiasm and resulted in a total of 17 car turnout.
17 is an interesting number as we had decided to make a formation of the initials of the club "DF" at a large parking lot and needed exactly 17 cars to complete it.
DFC member GT3Dan kindly arranged a personalized tour of the Farnbacher Loles Racing Shop in Danbury, CT. Although they are usually closed on Sundays they opened their doors for us and had a very informative and pleasant staff present answering everyone\'s questions and showing various sections of the shop and the operations they are involved in. The shop was full of Porsche Cup cars, modified track Porsches and even classic older Porsches getting complete restorations.
We drove up from Westchester with a nice group of about 20 cars and took I684 which was empty of traffic, 3 lanes wide and smooth. Made for a very fun and spirited drive.
70 degrees in November? We couldn\'t miss a day like that and decided to go for a drive upstate. We missed the fall foliage by a couple of weeks, but instead were presented with empty mountain roads which were incredible to drive on. The small group we had made it very easy to coordinate and stay together.
The group really came together as one when one of the cars broke down. Everyone stopped to help and but soon it was clear that it wasn\'t something we could fix on the go and that the car needed to be towed back home. We loaded it on the tow truck and continued the drive. Lunch at Guilded Otter was nice and the drive back with windows open reminded the great summer time.
1st Annual Alpine Charity Car Show was a well organized event held on the grounds of beautiful Frick Mansion in Alpine, NJ. The host of the event Jeff Kurtz had many of his own cars out display including MC12, Enzo, F50, F40, 360CS, 430S, Carrera GT, Diablo Roadster, Murcielago Roadster and many more.
In addition to those the property was filled with all sorts of eye candy - Ferraris and Lamborghinis everywhere, the new Panamera was present along with a variety of other Porsche models, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, classic cars, antiques and many many more.
Black cars at night - very hard to capture. But decided to give it a try, specially when the objects of the photoshoot were a beautiful LP560-4 Spyder finished in black with red interior and a matte black BMW M6 also with red accents.
The two cars complimented each other very well and were a pleasure to photograph. Learnt a lot from this shoot about night photography and will be able to apply the experience to future projects.
We were contacted a while ago by Kevin Faga who asked us to help bring participants to a charity rally he was organizing for a relative of his Katy suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. We responded and represented DFC with about 20 cars. For a first time event it was run very well with plenty of people helping and a great turnout of over 50 cars total.
After the drive a luncheon was served at Olde Stone Mill restaurant in Tuckohoe, NY and a silant auction held with some very interesting items up for grabs. We hope that they were able to raise a good amount for the cause and will be happy to help and participate if it\'s held again next year.
After multiple postponements and finally a cancelation of the Bikini Car Wash everyone was itching for a nice day for a drive. Weather looked beautiful and in the 70s for Sunday, October 4th so we quickly drew some plans to meet in the city by Jacob Javitz and hit some wide open highways in NJ and NY state.
About 25 cars showed up for the drive after battling traffic and road closures as West Side Highway was closed down due to some bicycle race. Once everyone got together we started the drive by going first into Lincoln Tunnel.
We took advantage of the "Magic Hour" of the day, the best time for outdoor car photography. It\'s right before dawn when there is no direct sunlight, but there is lots of natural lighting which enriches the colors of the cars and really brings out the lines.
The yellow Gallardo Spyder is a Twin Turbo built by Heffner. It belongs to DFC member Dino and makes over 1000 HP in race gas mode. All the tasteful modifications done on the car including the HRE wheels, the drop, blacked out mirrors and air vents on the engine cover, the LP560-4 Spyder front bumper, the Superleggera Carbon Fiber rear valance really compliment the extensive work done on the engine and make this a very special and insanely fast Lamborghini.
2009 summer was a very rainy one and didn\'t really have as many sunny and warm weekends as one would wish for, but at least nature made up for all of it by giving us just the perfect weather for the Labor Day Weekend. Realizing that most people were away for that weekend we did not really count on a big turnout for a morning drive, but still managed to get about 10 cars out for breakfast, drive and lunch.
Bear Mountain area was very deserted and we enjoyed putting some extremely fun miles on the cars by going up and down
